Pleasurekraft – Satyr Song

Release: 2011.08.29
Label: 1605
Catalog# 1605078
Genre: Tech House

About The Track: On the heels of their remix for Australia's Sneaky Sound System which has charged up the Beatport charts in the last 2 weeks, tech house act Pleasurekraft are back with a new original, this time for Techno kingpin Umek, on his 1605 Music Therapy label. The track - aptly named "Satyr Song" was originally conceived this past Spring in Miami - the same time the duo took home the Beatport "Top Track of the Year" award. After the award announcement was made, Pleasurekraft along with a few close friends decided to celebrate with some drinks on Miami's beaches. After stocking up on alcohol and packing coolers with ice the group set out for the white sands and sunshine. On their way, a local homeless man who saw the entourage and coolers overflowing with various alcoholic beverages yelled over at the boys: "You got any Rosé in there?" The boys taken aback by the request shook their heads, upon which point the man announced simply, "Rosé on my brain, Cocaine in my dick vein." Immediately Kaveh looked at Kalle and the two knew that somehow, some way, they HAD to incorporate such a line of sheer hedonistic genius into a future track.

Fast forward several months and you have "Satyr Song". As Kaveh put it, "Named after the half-man half-goat beasts of Greek Mythology, who were famous for their hedonistic dispositions, immersing themselves and the people around them in drinking and giving in to all their carnal desires, the title of the track just seemed to fit with exactly what the main chant of the song exemplifies: excess"

Sonically the track is a slight departure from their deeper and circus-like tech house tracks, instead with a shot of adrenaline and housier vibe to boost the dancefloor appeal. Umek immediately signed the track and agreed to do a remix with his signature driving techno sound which takes the track's mantra to the next level.

Pleasurekraft – Satyr Song (UMEK Remix)

Genre: Techno

About The Track: 1605 proudly presents Tech House chart toppers Pleasurekraft and their new single "Satyr Song". Inspired by a line uttered to them by a homeless man in Miami last year, the duo recorded vocals, took their signature sound and injected it with a big shot of adrenaline - giving it a bigger, housier feel than their previous work, with a more raw and street sensibility. Big chords, heavy groove, and a vocal commanding indulgence in the most hedonistic pursuits, this is truly a Satyr's song.

On the remix, label leader Umek takes the original into big room territory with sharp vocal edits and his signature punch. Keeping everything airtight, the track blows off steam in the breakdown with carefully placed melodic elements and a thunderous build.

Kamp! – Cairo (Moullinex Remix)

Release: 2011.09.09
Label: Discotexas
Catalog# DT0012
Genre: House

About The Track: Real nice remix of a Kamp! Tune. A feel-good melody with an old skool beat and disco feel that is similar to the work of Lifelike and Russ Chimes.

About The Artist: If there is an underlying trait in all good music, it must be its ability to crush boundaries between genres, dancefloors and couches, twelve inches and YouTube clips. Enter Moullinex, Lisbon and Munich-based Luis Clara Gomes. Originally from a small countryside town in Portugal, he was surrounded by music and musicians during childhood and since an early age has been solely dedicated to the pursuit of eclecticism throughout his work, refusing to adhere to a specific genre or scene and forever be tagged with a dated aesthetic. That being said, if there is a common quality between his productions, it must be the careful craft of melodies, strong degree of human touch in machine-based music, melodramatic catharsis of unpretentious keyboards, desperate guitars, striking basslines, and beats reminiscing from a not so distant dancefloor past. Luis often collaborates with friends - in fact, most of the electric bass you’ll hear in his productions is responsibility of renaissance man Luis Calçada (yes, another Luis), and the guitars are crafted by Bruno Cardoso, a man also known as Xinobi.

While Luis has seen his work has received the acclaim of his peers, press and fans worldwide, he managed to find time to co-found the Discotexas imprint, together with Xinobi and Rockets, now responsible a flawless release catalog, along with a residency in one of the most sought-after clubs in Europe - Lux, Lisbon. If you think this is too much, wait: there’s more: the music videos for Moullinex are responsibility of Luis Clara Gomes and Luis Calçada. They have been praised everywhere, for use of ground-breaking technology and creativity.

POWEIDLO EP – Chmara Winter

Release: 2011.08.29
Label: Pets Recordings
Catalog# PET012
Genre: House

About The Tracks: It took Catz 'N Dogz's winsome Bibio edit to make me realize how much sweetness they were capable of; blame the cartoonish name for making me think they were all sampled guffaws and Dirtybird booty grooves. Their Pets Recordings label has so far shown a neat balance between slightly carnivalesque house and deeper, duskier shades. Now, with the debut single from Chmara Winter (fellow Poles Bartłomiej Chmara and Krzysztof Winter), the label reaches a new level of lyricism. A one-chord pump suffices to sketch a traditional deep house groove; bursts of sampled vocals fill in the picture, like Akufen in slow motion. There's a touch of post-minimal funny business in the clunky drums, but it's all smoothed out by brooding synthesizer bass and wistful vocals, just processed enough to give them bite.

Marcin Czubala takes his remix in a different direction, pasting a scrap of the vocal over a late night, minor key groove, linear and a little anxious. Lee Jones, though, provides the record's highlight. He twists the spirit of the original into something more optimistic, cutting the vocals into new refrains and writing new changes. You won't hear many other songs move like this one does: the chord progression pivots in places you wouldn't expect. I counted a 17-bar phrase, but it's hard to be too mathematical when confronted with such a bewitching bass melody and such soothing vocals. Between this and songs like and Mario & Vidis' "Changed," it's turning out to be a great year for deep house ballads.
